SFHA Solutions 6.0.1: Use case for setting up a mixed configuration cluster running SF Oracle RAC and SFCFSHA

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Some business environments may require a cluster setup that supports application high availability with differentiated configurations in the same cluster. For example, some applications in the cluster may need high availability with or without dependency on databases. And, some applications may require high availability with support for clustered databases. In such scenarios, you may want to consider a mixed configuration of Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC (SF Oracle RAC) and Storage Foundation Cluster File System High Availability (SFCFSHA) in your environment.

In mixed configurations, nodes with applications that require high availability can be configured to run SFCFSHA while nodes with applications that require clustered databases can be configured to run SF Oracle RAC.

This article introduces the configuration scenarios and the advantage of having mixed configurations.

The deployment scenarios are as follows:

  • Scenario 1: SF Oracle RAC is installed on all nodes in the cluster. Some of the nodes in the cluster are used to run applications in SFCFSHA environment.
  • Scenario2: SFCFSHA is installed on all nodes in the cluster. Some of the nodes in the cluster are used to run SF Oracle RAC.

Both configuration scenarios provide the following advantages:

  • Optimize and extend your cluster infrastructure to suit application needs in your environment.
  • Repurpose nodes in a cluster. A node running SFCFSHA can be reconfigured to run SF Oracle RAC.
  • Manage application dependencies.
  • Back up Oracle RAC database from SFCFSHA nodes in the cluster.
  • Enhanced storage availability with Cluster Volume Manager (CVM)  I/O shipping.

I need a solution

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a resolution with this issue.

Currrently running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Cluster with Storage Foundation 5.2. One node is currently offline.

We have one resource group with 2 disks connected but 1 disk is showing an exclamation mark (yellow) with several resources not being brought online. Other resources in this cluster group are online. But when accessing  "cluadmin", we are noticing that it is hanging on this disk group.

Not to sure where to proceed.

Any help would be appreciated.

I need a solution

Hi,

We upgraded our Clusters from SFHA 5.1 SP2 to SFHA 6.0.1 CP3 a few days ago. Now, after this Upgrade we have an issue when we try to start the VMDg-Ressource after a Server-reboot:
When we stop all the ressources on Node1 and reboot this Node, we aren't able to start the VMDg-Ressource again on that node after the boot until we rescan/refresh the Disks in the Veritas Enterprise Administrator. I also activated the SCSI-3 Support but with no effect.
There's only this Event in the Windows Eventlog: Failed to deport cluster dynamic disk group xxxx_DG.

And this event is stored in the VEA-Log:

Failed to deport cluster dynamic disk group xxxx_DG.
Details:

Recommended Action:

The SFHA Nodes are W2008R2 Server VM's on VMware vSphere 5.0 Hosts. Drivers are from the latest VMware Tools.

Does anybody know this issue or has a solution?

Thanks,

if yes,how to setup?

if no,what is the better way to migrate original data to sfw mirror volume?

I need a solution

Hi

Scenario: We have a 2 node cluster about 15meters apart from each other.

DC1: Node 1

DC2: Node 2

We are planning to move DC2/Node2 to an offsite location.

Without Global Clustering.

What is the max distance the nodes can be apart from each other?

Min bandwidth for mirroring and Heartbeat?

Or any information regarding the Distance between Cluster Nodes

Thanks

Need to destroy DG that cannot be imported

I need a solution

Hi.

I'm using virtual Windows 2008 R2, SFW 6.0.1 on VMware 5.1.

I have DG that cannot be imported, instead of resolving the issue I want to destroy it. Is it possible? If so, how?

Addition, when I created this DG it initialy displayed that disk cannot be added though it was able to and imported the DG. However, when I deported it i cannot import it again. Error is V-76-58645-542, unable to reserve a majority of dynamic disk group members. failed to start scsi reservation thread. I've seen lots of discussion about this error but instead of going through I thought of destroying it and modify VM properties as per VMware guide for clustering particularly the disk.

Any idea is most welcome.

Every 64-bit Windows system with QLogic FC HBAs is under-performing

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Shock headline, lots of caveats. April 2013 release of QLogic Windows device driver for 2[4-6]xx Fibre Channel HBAs (9.1.11.20) uses 64-bit DMA addressing. Presumably previous versions (<=9.1.10.28) use 32-bit DMA addressing. Supporting evidence from Release Notes:

  • Added support support for full 64 bit physical addressing [ER101742]

Have not talked with anyone from QLogic to confirm this, but seeing the above in the Release Notes was an a-ha! moment. I believe it because I have lots of observations that fit. Specifically using 100% of a core per 200 MB/s I/O stream (probably doing buffer copying and interrupt handling) and extreme volatility of I/O speeds under load. Now I know why Emulex cards perform better in Windows 2008 R2 environments.

Problems with reduction of privileges in a VCS 5.1 with SQL Server 2005

I need a solution

Hi,

We have a VCS 5.1 for windows 2003 R2 Enterprise edition x64 with 3 nodes (one local cluster with 2 nodes and alternate site with one node for BRP)

Originally we created the vcshelper for cluster control and a domain user account for SQL Server service.

For these accounts the installer requested domain administrator privileges so we granted.

Now for security management reasons and allignment with HQ we need to reduce privileges on these 2 accounts so we were reffered to document:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH31331

We did this but whenever we reduce privileges on the accounts the sql server does not start. I present the sequence of events below.

Steps:

1.We removed administrator privilege from vcshelper and domain user account

2. We changed both accounts for Veritas and SQL server. We restarted service in one machine and worked fine

3.Then we failed over to the other node and the cluster was fine but SQL could not start sending error:

Failed allocate pages: FAIL_PAGE_ALLOCATION 1

Error: 17311, Severity: 16, State: 1. (Params:). The error is printed in terse mode because there was error during formatting. Tracing, ETW, notifications etc are skipped.

4.I retried removing the account and using Local system account but got same message

5. We put back privileges to VCShelper  and domain user account

6. And with this I made a failover cycle between the two nodes and worked fine. (A to B and B to A)

PLEASE ADVISE ON WHAT TO DO TO ALLOW SQL SERVER TO START

PS: We haven tried the next text of failover to alternate site due we have this problem in local cluster

Thanks in advance

1. VRTS STORAGE FOUNDATION 6.0 WIN FOR OS TIER STANDARD EDITION PER SERVER STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S.

2. VRTS STORAGE FOUNDATION OPTION VOLUME REPLICATOR 6.0 WIN FOR OS TIER STANDARD EDITION PER SERVER STD LIC EXPRESS BAND S

The above product  is brought for both the site.

Now , we have the following to replicate:-

1. Operating System -  windows 2008 R2 Ent.

2. Drive - C:, D: E:

3. Oracle 11.2g Database installed on this system. (installation is in C Drive and database is in D Drive).

4. Bandwidth - Shared 24 Mbps/18-20 ms.

5. All drive are local drive in RAID configuration.

6. Database size is 15-16 GB

I am very much new to Storage foundation.

I have the below query:-

1. Will the above license will work for the drive replication to a different geographical location.

2. Will the bandwidth is enough to conduct the replication.

Is there any installation "getting started' short of docs.

Is there anything I need to check before installation.

What could be the performance of the same.

Any pros and corns....
